  • Finally a few pics

Though a few weeks old, these pics show that the 3 flood days that closed the school were just kind of fun on our side of town.  Our house is a meter higher than our street.  So these big puddles provided nothing more than entertainment.

Friends living nearer the school had water in their houses.

(By the way, though I've tried several times, this is the first time I could Xanga to upload pictures or video.  Even on this post, I could only upload pictures one at a time.  Anybody got any advice?)

  • Home

We safely arrived back in Bangkok late, late Wednesday night.  All is well.

At this point we're still unpacking our 9 suitcases (we went to the States with only 5).

Scott goes back to work Monday, 3 Aug.  Krista starts 3rd grade at ICS Monday 10 August, a whole new experience for us.

  • Summer Newsletter

“Mommy, what is this?” Krista had brought me a toy from the dollhouse in our home in Bangkok.

“Well, Krista, it’s called a dish washer. It’s a machine that people in America use to clean their dishes. They can put the dishes in, shut the door, and go do something else.”

Pause. “Mommy, why are Americans so lazy?”

This and many more questions were answered when our girls could see such American novelties in real life this summer. They saw real American commercials, waterfalls in deep woods, experienced airplane delays, blew dandelions gone to seed, looked down through clouds at the Rocky Mountains, and even witnessed a calf being born. They have spent hours with cousins from coast to coast and breathed in the cool clean air of the countryside.

Our time in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, has been refreshing and connecting. We have enjoyed being with our supporting church, Shawnee Hills Baptist, and our supportive families. They all facilitated times when we could share our lives and ministries with others, from family reunions to an evening service. We wish we could have visited with more of you!

There are beginnings and there are endings. We began the summer with head colds and are ending with them. Clarisse entered the States with stitches in her scalp from a fall, and Alizabeth is leaving the States with teeth knocked loose from a fall. We have stuffed ourselves full of all the berries, sweet potatoes, turkey and ice cream we can, from beginning to end. Life has been pleasant here, and soon we return to the front lines.

Please pray for us as we embark on a journey over the north pole, from New York City to Narita to Bangkok. We look forward to returning to our home there, but the logistics of travel with four little ones is somewhat daunting! Monday evening (July 27) we’ll travel up to NYC, and Tuesday (July 28) we’ll depart (exact flights below). Scott and Krista are eagerly anticipating their new roles at ICS (a new job position and entering 3rd grade, respectively). Thank you for all you have done to bless us this summer!
